LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

The Lake Manyara National Park occupies 320 sq. km contiguous to Tarangire National Park. The Lake Manyara occupies about 70% of the total area which is a soda Lake. About 130 km from Arusha Town the Lake accommodates more than 350 bird species. The water birds that lie on Manyara include spoonbills, flamingoes Egyptian geese and pelicans. On the other side is the hippo pool which contains numerous hippos which can be sighted very close.

Most of the acacia trees in this park are located near the road and make it one of the best places to see lions on the tree which is not a common behavior of these animals.

Animals and birds found in the park include African buffalo, elephants, leopards, baboons, impala, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, and ostrich.

The wall of the Rift valley escarpment crosses the park and during its formation it left the hot springs commonly known as “Maji moto”.
